Mod Radical Mastoidectomy
Modified Radical Mastoidectomy
Indications for Surgery
Cholesteatoma, Ear Canal damage or absence, Tumors of the middle ear and mastoid, Chronic Otitis Media
In addition to removal of the mastoid bone, the external auditory canal is removed leaving a cavity in the ear. The opening of the ear canal (the acoustic meatus) must be enlarged to allow proper air flow and cleaning of the area. The procedure requires avoidance of water in the future and is used infrequently at CEI.
